One engine.Every industry runs a different rulebook on top.
CAIER isn't scheduling software you configure into working. It's built from the ground up on the Circadian Alignment Index (CAI™), so a fair, fatigue-aware schedule is the default output — not something you tune your way toward. This page covers what the platform actually does, independent of industry.
Everything CAIER does, at a glance
Every live vertical runs the same capabilities below — the rulebook on top is the only thing that changes.
Build the schedule
- Hard rules always enforced — time off, credentials, no double-booking
- AI-assisted generation from plain-language requests
- Circadian scoring (CAI) on every candidate schedule before publication
- Population-level fatigue defaults, fine-tuned per person
- Coverage requirements handled across roles and shifts
Run the day to day
- Calendar sync — Google, Apple, and Outlook
- Push notifications for swaps, gaps, and changes
- Shift swap requests built into the workflow
- Mobile access for the whole team, not just the scheduler
- Time-off requests and preferences in one place
Measure and adapt
- Distribution and fatigue analytics across the team
- Circadian cost tracked per person, not just coverage
- Imports of your existing schedules
- Spreadsheet exports compatible with your current systems
- Rule changes without rebuilding from scratch
Four layers, in order, every build
Most scheduling software makes you tell it to avoid isolated night shifts, backward rotations, and broken weekends. CAIER already does — before it's seen a single thing about your department.
Hard rules, always enforced
Time off, admin time, no double-booking. These are never up for negotiation, for anyone, regardless of preference settings.
Circadian scoring (CAI)
Every candidate schedule is scored on night density, rotation direction, recovery time, and how evenly the cost is distributed — before it's ever published.
Preference alignment
Population-level defaults come from the best available fatigue evidence. Individuals fine-tune from there — more or fewer days in a row, night caps, weekend priority.
AI-assisted generation
Describe scheduling needs in plain language; the engine turns them into rules. What takes hours by hand runs in seconds, while maintaining coverage.
What CAI actually scores
The Circadian Alignment Index reads a published schedule and scores how well its structure fits human circadian rhythm — higher is better. It's a schedule-design metric, currently being validated in emergency medicine before extending to other industries.
Night density
How many night shifts land in a block, clustered or scattered.
Rotation direction
Forward rotation is easier to adapt to than backward rotation.
Recovery time
Whether time off after a night run is long enough to re-anchor sleep.
Distribution
Whether circadian cost is spread across the group or absorbed by a few.
What your team actually touches
The modern basics are covered for the whole team, not just the person building the schedule.
Calendar sync
Google, Apple, and Outlook, kept in sync automatically.
Push notifications
For swaps, coverage gaps, and schedule changes.
Shift swap requests
Built into the workflow, not bolted on.
Mobile access
For the whole team, not just the scheduler.
Distribution & fatigue analytics
See how coverage and circadian cost are actually spread across the team.
Export to existing systems
Spreadsheet exports compatible with the workforce management tools you already run.
Where the platform is already running
- Healthcare — emergency medicine and hospital nursing
- Public safety & EMS — Kelly cycles, 24/48 tours, holdovers
- Aviation — air traffic control watch schedules
Common questions
Is CAIER a scheduling platform or just a scoring tool?
A full scheduling platform. CAI is built in as the scoring objective the engine builds toward, not a separate report you run afterward. CAIER Research is a related, separate open tool for scoring schedules you already have.
Does CAIER replace our existing scheduling system?
Not necessarily on day one. CAIER can import existing schedules and export to spreadsheet formats compatible with systems like QGenda, so teams can adopt the engine without a full cutover.
Can individual staff set their own preferences?
CAIER starts from population-level, evidence-based defaults, then lets each person fine-tune preferences like days-in-a-row, night caps, and weekend priority. Hard rules are never negotiable.
